Mark Your Calendars:

  • February 9-13: Carnaval de Mérida  Immerse yourself in the riotous joy of Mérida’s week-long extravaganza at the state fairgrounds at Xmatkuil, where the pageant is on full display.  Feel like a kid again as you ride the Tilt-a-Whirls, vie for a prize, and take in a show.  Embrace the muy mexicano spirit of uninhibited revelry, and find yourself swept away by the gleeful, inclusive yucateco throng.
  • March/April (TBD): Mérida Food Week  Embark on an odyssey through the diverse gastronomic landscape of Mérida.  This week-long festival brings together renowned chefs, local eateries, and artisanal food vendors for a whirlwind of tastings, cooking demonstrations, and immersive culinary workshops.  Explore hidden gems within the bustling mercados, savor gourmet masterpieces in upscale eateries, and discover the secret ingredients that make Yucatecan cuisine so unique.
  • June 26 – July 1: Mérida Gay Pride  Celebrate the vivid tapestry of Yucatán’s LGBTQ+ community at this annual festival.  Watch the dazzling pride parade, a pulsating kaleidoscope of self-expression and inclusivity, as it winds through the city’s historic streets.  Enjoy live music, dance performances, and captivating installations at the Plaza Grande, Mérida’s main town square. Savor the diverse offerings of pop-up food stalls, and lend your support to local LGBTQ+ organizations and businesses.  Mérida Gay Pride is a vibrant celebration of acceptance, unity, and the joyous diversity of the human experience, which gets bigger and better with every year.
  • October 26: Noche Blanca: Amble through a balmy tropical night of artistic sophistication.  This annual event transforms the city center into a vibrant canvas of light installations, live music, and captivating street performances.  Marvel at illuminated facades that whisper tales of the city’s past, visit an array of galleries punctuated by temporary site-specific installations, and dance all evening beneath the moonlight. Noche Blanca is an unforgettable sensory experience that celebrates Mérida’s effusive, and surprisingly eclectic, creative spirit.
  • October 31 – November 2: Hanal Pixan  Delve into the mystical world in the millennia-old local variation on Día de los Muertos traditions.  Take in the ofrendas (altars) meticulously adorned with offerings for departed loved ones, witness the deeply moving Festival de las Ánimas (parade of souls), and savor the special holiday pastries, flavored with anise and imbued with spirit.  All the elements combine for an inspiring and unforgettable experience that celebrates life and remembrance, and offers a glimpse into the timeless soul of the Maya people.
  • DIY Down In Yucatán  To be sure, Mérida’s cultural calendar extends far beyond these specific highlights.  At any time of year Mérida offers more to do than time to do it.

2024 promises to be an especially attractive year to visit Mérida, with the recent grand opening of the new Parque la Plancha. This lovely new park, converted from disused rail yards, is connected to the Plaza Grande via the vibrant, pedestrian-friendly Corridor Gastronómico (Restaurant Row) and features a tram station that delivers passengers directly to the Tren Maya, which links Mérida to many archaeological sites and the Caribbean coast.  So whether you’re drawn by the pulsating rhythm of festivals, the quiet contemplation of ancient history, or a simple escape from the routine, embrace Mérida’s vibrant spirit and let it awaken your senses.  El Pueblo is your haven in the heart of it all – a sanctuary where tranquility and indulgence effortlessly blend.  Here you will find a refuge from the revelry, a space to unwind and share your stories, and an uncommon camaraderie in which you can be your authentic self.  So, gentlemen, let’s raise a glass in anticipation of an unforgettable 2024 in Mérida.  El Pueblo awaits you
