My Story
Hi, my name is Cecil. I was born in South Africa. After earning a degree in chemical engineering in Johannesburg, I moved to New York City in 1985 to complete a master’s degree in applied mathematics and became an actuary and insurance executive.
I first visited Mérida in 2011 for the Thanksgiving holiday — and bought a house that same week! My decision to move to Mérida was made from the heart: friendly people, improved overall quality of life, and better weather. Mérida just made my heart sing.
There was no overall design for this grand experiment. It’s as important to allow things to happen as it is to make them happen. Over the years, I acquired three additional adjacent lots as they came up for sale, adding them to the original house to create what is now El Pueblo.
